In an Australian first, the project combines new accommodation and a mix of learning and other interaction environments for Indigenous students living away from home.

A central banksia-inspired four-storey structure provides communal gathering areas, including a top-level cultural ceremony space with a fire and smoking pit. Other elements include:

  • 54 quality accommodation units over three levels that feature high specification and fitout

  • New Indigenous Learning Centre, art gallery and courtyard

  • Refurbishing and repurposing an accommodation building (Prescott Building) to a learning centre

EMCO Building was responsible for detailed design from initial architectural concepts and construction, including forward works and site establishment.

The project was delivered on time and to budget while maintaining college operations during construction.

‘We are very pleased with the finished product. (EMCO Building) always accommodated requests and requirements. Dealing with EMCO Building was a pleasure. They were dedicated to the project and understood all the ramifications of working within a live environment.
